Wine Review Report :

Last reviewed: 20 April, 2007
The DOC area in the Portuguese region of Extremadura is named after the city of the same name. The area is characterised by 160 quintas (wineries) with often castle-like buildings (like the French Châteaux), whose roots reach back to the Middle Ages. The red and white wines are made from the native varieties Arinto, Camarate, Fernão Pires, Jampal, Mortágua (Trincadeira Preta), Periquita (Castelão Francês), Preto Martinho, Tinta Miúda (Graciano) and Vital. The most famous wineries are Quinta de Abrigada, Quinta de Plátanos and Quinta do Carneiro.

Synonym (also Aragón, Aragones, Aragonez da Ferra, Aragonez de Elvas, Tinta Aragonez, Tinto Aragónez) for the vine variety Tempranillo; see there
