The winery is located in the municipality of Treiso (province of Cuneo) in the Italian region of Piedmont. The name derives from the hamlet of Pertinace di Treiso, which in turn goes back to the Roman emperor Publius Helvius Pertinax (126-193). The winery was founded in 1973 by Mario Barbero as a community winery. Today it is managed by Cesare Barbero, and the oenologist in charge is Stefano Giordano. The vineyards of the 17 partners or members cover a total of 100 hectares. The red wine varieties Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Pinot Nero(Pinot Noir) and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as the white wine varieties Arneis, Chardonnay and Moscato Bianco(Muscat Blanc) are cultivated and processed. The cultivation is carried out according to certified rules of the SQNPI quality system for integrated production. The product range includes various DOC/DOCG wines Alta Langa, Barbaresco, Barbera d'Alba, Barolo, Dolcetto d'Alba, Langhe and Moscato d'Asti. Depending on the type of wine, they are aged in stainless steel tanks or in large wooden barrels (40 to 105 hl). The premium wines of the house are Barbaresco Nervo (100% Nebbiolo, 18 months barrel ageing), Dolcetto d'Alba (100% Dolcetto, 6 months stainless steel) and Barbera d'Alba (100% Barbera, 9 months barrel ageing). Around 650,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. About 40% of these are exported, mainly to the USA. The winery is a member of the Associazione Albeisa and Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani.
