Privat - Senftenberger Pellingen 2015
Riesling |
The "Martin and Christine Nigl" winery is located in the municipality of Senftenberg in the Kremstal wine-growing region (Lower Austria). The building below the Senftenberg ruins, which formerly served the Starhemberg domain as a reading farm and whose core dates back to the 12th century, was restored and remodelled and became the new domicile in 2004. In addition to the winery, it also houses a hotel and a restaurant. The vineyards cover 25 hectares of vines, which are widely scattered in the Dornleiten, Gärtling, Freiheit, Hochäcker, Kremsleiten and Piri vineyards. They are 90% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (40%), Riesling (40%), Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller and Chardonnay, with the remaining 10% planted with Zweigelt.
The vineyards are cultivated in a natural, environmentally friendly manner according to the rules of integrated pest management. The strictly selective harvest is carried out by hand in several passes and takes up to one and a half months. The white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks and partly in barriques. The top wines are marketed under the "Privat" line. The Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner from the Piri vineyard are considered the best wines. The winery is a member of the Winzervereinigung Traditionsweingüter Österreich.
