The "Martin and Christine Nigl" winery is located in the municipality of Senftenberg in the Kremstal wine-growing region of Lower Austria. The building below the Senftenberg ruins, the core of which dates back to the 12th century, was formerly used by the Starhemberg domain as a harvest farm and was restored and rebuilt and moved into as a new domicile in 2004. In addition to the winery, it also houses a hotel and a restaurant. The vineyards cover 25 hectares of vineyards, which are widely scattered in the Dornleiten, Gärtling, Freiheit, Hochäcker, Kremsleiten and Piri vineyards. They are 90% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (40%), Riesling (40%), Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller and Chardonnay, the remaining 10% with Zweigelt.
The vineyards are cultivated in a natural, environmentally friendly way according to the rules of integrated p est management. The strictly selective harvest is carried out by hand in several passes and lasts up to one and a half months. The white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks and partly in barriques. The top wines are marketed under the "Privat" line. The Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner from the Piri vineyard are considered the best wines. The winery is a member of the Winzervereinigung Traditionsweingüter Österreich.
