2019 Südtirol / Alto Adige DOC Merlot Riserva "Brenntal", Alto Adige, Italy

Firm and quite deep, somewhat meaty-animalic scent of ripe blackcurrants, blood, a little dried tomatoes and black olives, Mediterranean herbs in the background and hints of juniper. Firmly woven, ripe black fruit with smoky and somewhat coffee-spicy wood aromas, quite present, ripe tannin, lots of power and some bite, dark ethereal spice, cedary nuances, a little bitter chocolate, some depth, salty hints, very good finish with ripe dark juice, some toasty spice and ethereal notes again.

Editor note: Firm, somewhat meaty-animalic scent of ripe black berries, pepper, a little dry herbs, mixed pickles, juniper, black olives and dried tomatoes. Tight, tart, juicy dark fruit, toasty and slightly smoky to sooty wood, some bite, present, fine sandy tannin, good persistence, noticeable alcohol, toasty hints, peppery and bitterish-ashy tones, again also mixed pickles with some spiciness, very good, tart, alcoholic finish that gains juice and complexity with air.
