The winery is located in the village of Villány
in the Hungarian wine region of the same name. It was founded in 1998 by Horst Hummel. The vineyards cover 7.5 hectares of vineyards on calcareous loess soils, planted with the red wine varieties Portugieser, Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch
), Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The white wine varieties Hárslevelü (lime leafy) and Tramini (Gewürztraminer) are also purchased. Since 2008, the cultivation has been carried out according to ecological rules. The aim is to produce unadulterated, independent wines full of character, which express the characteristics of the grape variety, the soil and the special Villány climate. The fermentation of the red wines takes place mainly spontaneously
and in open fermentation tanks. Once fermentation is complete, the wine remains on the skins for two to four weeks for maceration
. It is then drawn off in oak barrels of different ages and provenance. There the wine matures for up to two years, depending on the variety.
