The winery is located in the municipality of Wilfersdorf in the north of the Lower Austrian wine growing region Weinviertel. The noble family Liechtenstein was founded by Heinrich I as early as the 13th century. His sons entered the service of Rudolf of Habsburg (1218-1291). The family subsequently acquired large areas of vineyards. One of the descendants was Gundaker, who received the estates Wilfersdorf, Mistelbach, Poysdorf and Ringelsdorf. Wilfersdorf Castle has been in the uninterrupted possession of the Liechtenstein family since 1436 and since that time the family has been engaged in viticulture. Even at that time, progressive winegrowing methods were introduced. In 1636, for example, a cellar regulation was issued in which, among other things, the "Zuberaithung von Wein mit Schwebl" was precisely regulated. The domain of the Prince of Liechtenstein includes the Hofkellerei Stiftung Fürst Liechtenstein and Wilfersdorf Palace in Wilfersdorf, as well as the Hofkellerei with the Vinothek and the Torkel specialty restaurant in Vaduz. The vineyards of the Vaduz domain are among the best locations in the Rhine Valley. The four-hectare Herawingert has been owned by the Princely Family since 1712 and is the most important vineyard in the Principality of Liechtenstein.

The vineyards in Wilfersdorf-Lower Austria comprise almost 40 hectares of vines with the main vineyards Karlsberg and Johannesberg in the municipality of Herrnbaumgarten. They are planted to 60% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (about one third), Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Gelber Muskateller, Muskat-Ottonel and Traminer, and to 40% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt (about one third) and Merlot. The extensive product range comprises three wine lines: Schloss Wilfersdorf (varietal wines), Clos Domaine (late-harvest qualities) and Selektion Karlsberg (barriques, cuvées and editions). Premium wines include the red wine cuvée Principatus Selektion Karlsberg (Zweigelt, Merlot), Anberola Merlot Selektion Karlsberg and Profundo Zweigelt Selektion Karlsberg. Bottle and tank fermented sparkling wines are also produced, as well as the sparkling wine Liesecco. Old wines are marketed back to the 1969 vintage. Around 200,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the premium wine estates Weinviertel.
