The winery is located in the community of Durbach (Ortenau area) in the German Baden wine region. Members of the Zorn von Bulach family, who had been living in Osthausen Castle in neighbouring Alsace since the 16th century, owned a fiefdom in Durbach as early as 1180, and from 1381 onwards they also cultivated vines there. In the 19th century, Ernst Maximilian Baron Zorn von Bulach expanded the estate, which was then known as "Frhr. Zorn von Bulach Durbach", and in 1830 introduced the White Sauvignon, which he had received from his friend Marquis de Lur-Saluces, the owner of Château d'Yquem. In 1936 the estate passed from the estate of Hugo Freiherr Zorn von Bulach into the possession of his daughter, Countess Wolff Metternich zur Gracht. Finally, in 1994 it was acquired by the entrepreneur Rüdiger Hurrle and is now owned by Gertraud Hurrle

The vineyards comprise 34 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations of Herrentisch (Lahr), as well as Schlossberg (18 hectares) and the sole ownership of Schloss Grohl (Durbach). They are planted with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as well as the white wine varieties Klingelberger (Riesling), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Clevner (Traminer), Scheurebe and Sauvignon Blanc. Various forms of upbringing are being experimented with. In addition to the Italian inverted training which has been practiced for decades, the Australian non-pruning system (non-cutting) is also used

Environmentally friendly, near-natural viticulture with permanent greenery and integrated plant protection is practised. Through appropriate measures the yield is limited to 40 to 60 hl/ha. The fermentation is initiated by means of selected pure yeasts. Depending on the desired wine type, the wines are aged in steel tanks, wooden barrels and barriques. In years with suitable weather conditions, noble sweet predicates up to ice wines are also pressed. Noble brandies (yeast, marc), sparkling wines and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. The winery is a member of the Pro Riesling Association.
