The winery is located in the municipality of Serra de' Conti in the province of Ancona in the Italian region of Marche, about 20 kilometres from the Adriatic coast. It was founded in 1999 by the German architect couple Thomas and Kirsten Weydemann. Dr. Agostino Pisani works as a consulting agronomist and oenologist. The vineyards cover three hectares at 220 metres above sea level and are planted with the red varieties Montepulciano (two thirds), Merlot, Sagrantino and Syrah. The vineyards are cultivated according to the criteria of organic viticulture. These include the use of organic fertiliser, green manure, mechanical weeding with no herbicides and control of diseases and pests with biological sprays. The best grapes from preferred locations are used for the pure varietal wines. The Verdicchio grapes for the white wine are harvested on a friendly vineyard itself

The alcoholic fermentation is followed by a maceration period of three to four weeks in concrete or stainless steel tanks. Some of the wines remain on the skins for several months. Depending on the vintage and grape variety, the malolactic fermentation and maturation take place over 12 to 30 months in new and used barriques (225 to 500 litres) of French oak on with bâtonnage (stirring). After only a very small addition of sulphur, bottling is usually carried out without clarification and filtration. It is only marketed after 12 months of bottle aging. Premium wines include the pure IGT wines Lysipp (Montepulciano, 30 months in barrique), Lo Sconosciuto (Sagrantino, 30 months in barrique) and Il Paonazzo (Syrah, 22 months in barrique). About 15,000 bottles of wine are produced annually, most of which are exported to Germany and Hong Kong. The winery is a member of the associations FIVI (Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti) and IMT (Istituto Marchegiano di Tutela Vini).
