The region (ital. Campania) with the capital Naples is located in the southwest of Italy along the Tyrrhenian coast near the "boot instep". More to the south are only the regions of Puglia to the east, as well as Calabria and Sicily. For a long time, the name Falanghina (also Falanghina Bianca) was only understood to refer to a single white grape variety from Italy and was listed as a single variety in the statistics at least until the year 2000. The name is derived from the ancient educational form "phalange" (tied to the stake).
