Durbacher Steinberg Beerenauslese 2013,Baden GEWURTZTRAMINER DU MONDE |
The winegrowers' cooperative in the municipality of Durbach (Ortenau area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden was founded in 1928. The decisive impetus for this was given by the then mayor Franz-Xaver Wörner. Stephan Danner has been the managing director since January 2015, and Rüdiger Nilles is responsible for the cellar. The 180 member wineries (most of them full-time vintners) cultivate 340 hectares of vineyards in the Durbach vineyards Kochberg, Ölberg, Plauelrain and Steinberg. The white wine varieties Chardonnay, Clevner (Traminer), Gewürztraminer, Klingelberger (Riesling), Müller-Thurgau, Muskateller, Ruländer (Pinot Gris), Sauvignon Blanc, Scheurebe and Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), as well as the red wine varieties Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), the main variety with about 50% of the area, and Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated and processed. The white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, the red wines traditionally in large wooden bar rels or in barriques. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, sparkling wines, noble brandies (marc, fruit), liqueurs and wine jellies are also produced.
