Area classified as Cru (peak appellation) in the northern section of the Rhône on the right bank. It extends for 50 kilometres from Condrieu in the north to Saint-Péray in the south. The vineyards cover some 900 hectares of vines in 26 communes in the two departments of Ardèche and Loire. The centre of Saint-Joseph is the town of Tournon, situated on the banks of the Rhône opposite the Hermitage mountain. The wine was already appreciated by the French kings in the 16th century.
