The appellation, named after the municipality of the same name (Engl. "Savigny near Beaune"), with around 350 hectares of vineyards, is located in the Côte de Beaune part of the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. On an engraving from 1703, the wines are apostrophized as being "nutritious, theological and disease-repelling". Of the more than 20 Premiers Crus with a total of 212 hectares of vineyards, the most important are La Dominode, Aux Guettes, Les Lavières, Les Marconetts, Les Narbantons, Les Peuillets, Les Rouvrettes and Aux Vergelesses.
