2012 Côtes duTarn IGP Merlot "La Maze", South-west France, France

Firm, tart and quite deep, somewhat woody, earthy and animal scent of ripe, partly dried dark fruit with hints of paprika and a touch of tar in the background. Quite concentrated, very ripe, partly preserved, warm fruit, chocolaty and slightly toasty wood, earthy notes, slightly spicy on the palate, lots of power and alcohol, sweetish melting, crumbly, yet slightly drying tannin, good persistence, gains freshness and bite with air, fleshy-animal traces, very good, warm, juicy and spicy finish with salty hints and cocoa. Needs air
