2009 Wachau Ried Achleiten Riesling Smaragd® trocken, Lower Austria/Niederösterreich, Austria

Tart, fairly cool nose, light vegetal and prominent mineral notes, restrained, fairly elegant citrus and stone fruit. Ripe, fairly juicy, bone dry fruit on the palate, creamy, elegant, fairly moderate acidity, persistent., nutty traces, prominent mineral notes, full body, some depth, fairly tranquil style, but also firm, slightly noticeable warm alcohol on a very good mineral finish. Holding up very well, although it is no longer quite as impressive as it was a few years ago.

Editor note: Sweetish nose, but also has prominent mineral notes, light floral and lactic traces, pears, pineapple, some banana and citrus notes, herbaceous notes. Creamy on the palate, initially again lactic notes, becomes increasingly juicy with aeration, firm fruit with vegetal and earthy notes, some hay, elegant acidity, slightly astringent tannins, quickly becomes more integrated and provides additional grip, intense, slightly salty mineral notes, very good persistence and substance, medium depth, very good finish.
