2018 Costa Toscana IGT Sangiovese, Tuscany, Italy

Clear, quite polished nose of mixed berries with a little black olives and dried Mediterranean herbs, moderate wood spice and a touch of juniper and tobacco. Ripe, warm, partly preserved fruit, some bitter chocolate and nutty wood, a hint of pepper, tobacco and smoke, crumbly, very slightly drying tannin, warming alcohol, a hint of Provence herbs, again a little black olives, coffee grounds in the background, very good, if very slightly muted finish.

Best to drink: Mitte 2023 bis 2030+. What our ratings mean
