The winery is located in the municipality of Lamberg-Wies in the Austrian wine-growing region of Western Styria. The estate house, situated on a hill overlooking the Koralpe, dates back to the 17th century. It is run by Christian Reiterer, who, after attending the viticultural school in Silberberg and training at the University of Montpellier, he produced his first wine in 1991. The vineyards cover 55 hectares of vines in the Engelweingarten, Lamberg and Riemerberg vineyards. They are mainly planted with the leading variety Blauer Wildbacher, as well as smaller quantities of the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Muskateller and Pinot Blanc. The vineyards are cultivated in a natural, environmentally friendly manner with rigorous quantity reduction. Christian Reiterer is considered a specialist for Blauer Wildbacher, from which different qualities of Schilcher, as well as Frizzante and sparkling wine are produced, separated according to vineyard.
Since 2002, there has been a joint venture with fellow winemaker Sepp Reiterer from South Tyrol. Under the label "Reiterer & Reiterer", a sparkling wine is produced that is blended from Styrian Schilcher as well as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc from South Tyrol. The acquisition of a vineyard in southern Styria led to expansion into a second Styrian wine-growing region. This is located near Gamlitz on the Kranachberg. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Welschriesling are cultivated here on 14 hectares of vineyards. Schilcher Frizzante and noble brandies are also produced.
