The winery is located in Saint-Émilion in the area of the same name (Bordeaux). The name is derived from its location on a hill (Tertre = hilltop). The neglected estate was acquired and reactivated by the Comte Léo de Malet-Roquefort in 1978. Until 1984, the wines had to be vinified at Château La Gaffelière. In 2011 the estate was acquired by the Domaine Clarence Dillon and renamed "Château Quintus". In 2012, it was classified under its old name as "Grand Cru Classé" or confirmed as such; whether the new name will be classified remains open (status end of 2014). The vineyards comprise 15 hectares of vines with the Merlot (51%) and Cabernet Franc (49%) varieties. The red wine matures in 50% new barriques. The new second wine is now called "Le Dragon of Quintus" (formerly "Château de Roquefort").
