A red wine from the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse in the Saint-Émilion (Bordeaux) area. It is not a winery in its own right, but the almost eight hectares of vineyards used for it are part of Château Faugères (see the history there). This estate was bought in 2005 by the Swiss entrepreneur Silvio Denz from the previous owner Corinne Guisez. Corinne Guisez had selected the best plots of land with Merlot vines of 45 years of age as a tribute to her husband Pierre-Bernard (Péby for his friends), who died in 1998. The 2000 vintage was the first to produce a wine called "Péby Faugères". From the 2005 vintage onwards it was called "Château Péby Faugères" (also "Château Faugères Cuvée Spéciale Péby"). It was classified as "Grand Cru Classé" in 2012. According to the US wine critic Robert Parker, it is one of the best wines in Bordeaux. This long-lasting red wine is made from 100% extremely yield-reduced (2009: 18 hl/ha) Merlot grapes. It matures for 18 months in 100% new barriques. Only about 800 cases (9,600 bottles) are produced annually.
