The winery is located in the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse in the area of Saint-Émilion (Bordeaux). It had been owned by the Esquissaud family since 1823 and came into the possession of the Guisez family by inheritance in 1987. In 2005 it was bought by the Swiss entrepreneur Silvio Denz, who is active in the perfume, cosmetics, crystal, real estate, art and wine sectors. He is also a wine collector; 35,000 bottles of wine are stored in his private cellar. The estate includes other wineries in Bordeaux (Château Cap de Faugères, Château de Chambrun, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey - one of the famous Premier Cru Classé wineries from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Rocheyron), as well as in Spain and Italy. By 2009, Château Faugères had been completely renovated. The cellar, equipped with the most modern techniques, is the work of the famous architect Mario Botta. Michel Rolland and Count Stephan von Neipperg(Château Canon-La-Gaffelière) were engaged as consultants

The farm was classified as "Grand Cru Classé" in 2012. The vineyards cover a total of 49 hectares of vineyards with the varieties Merlot (85%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Of these, around 8 hectares of specially selected high-quality plots are used for Château Péby Faugères red wine (it is therefore not a winery in its own right). The vineyard is cultivated according to ecologically sustainable rules or certified ISO 14001 environmental standards. The long-lasting red wine is aged for 14 months in 50% new barriques. The second wine is called "Haut Faugères".
