2001 Cahors AOC Le Cédre
Editor note: Prominent toasted, smoky notes on the nose, black berries. Loads of oak on the palate, too, roasted...
The winery is located in the commune of Vire-sur-Lot in the Cahors area of south-west France. It was founded in 1958 by Charles Verhaeghe with one hectare of vines at that time. Today it is managed by his sons Jean-Marc and Pascal Verhaeghe. The vineyards cover 27 hectares of vines, which are planted with the red wine varieties Malbec, here also called Auxerrois or Côt (90%), Merlot and Tannat, and the white wine varieties Viognier, Sémillon, Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc. The Cahors luxury version "Le Cèdre" is aged in new barriques. The red wines are partly prepared by micro-oxigenation. In 2000, the "Domaine Marcevol" estate with 12 hectares of vineyards in the Côtes du Roussillon area was taken over with a partner.
