The winery is located in the municipality of Villenave-d'Ornon in the Pessac-Léognan area of Graves (Bordeaux). It was founded in 1967 by André Lurton, who acquired 13 hectares of vineyards from Château Couhins, owned by the INRA, which he had already leased for several years. Of these, six hectares are planted with Sauvignon Blanc and seven with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In 1992 Lurton also bought the château and the old cellar from the INRA and renovated both. The white wine classified as "Cru Classé" is aged for ten months in 100% new barriques. The second wine is called "Château Cantebeau". The red wine is not classified.
