Appellation for red and white wines in the Côte de Nuits part of the Côte d'Or, named after the municipality of the same name south of Dijon. It consists of two parts, which are shared by the town itself. The northern part extends to the border of Vosne-Romanée, the southern part is partly in the commune of Nuits-Saint-Georges and partly in the commune of Premeaux-Prissey. It is vouched for that King Louis XIV (1638-1715) was recommended by his personal physician Guy-Crescent Fagon to enjoy a mature red wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges.
