The winery is located in the municipality of Magliano in Tuscany (province of Grosseto) in the Maremma region in the south of the Italian region of Tuscany. It was founded in 1980 by Karl Egger from Munich (Germany). Karl Egger was one of the first to introduce organic fruit and vegetable cultivation for his natural food brand "LaSelva". In 2003 a newly built, mostly underground modern cellar was put into operation. The vineyards cover 35 hectares of vines, mainly on hillsides with soils rich in minerals, limestone and clay. They are planted with the red wine varieties Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malvasia Nera di Brindisi, Petit Verdot, Pugnitello and Alicante, and with the white wine varieties Vermentino and Ansonica(Inzolia). The cultivation is carried out according to the guidelines of organic viticulture. LaSelva is controlled and certified by ICEA and the organic farming association Naturland as an organic farm.
Vinification is carried out according to vegan criteria (without animal products such as protein). The white wines are fermented at controlled temperatures at 16 °Celsius for 12 days. The red wines undergo maceration at 28 °Celsius for 10 to 15 days. Some of them mature for 6 to 14 months in French barriques. Twelve different organic wines certified by the Naturland association are produced. The wine "PRIVO" is aged completely without sulphites. Among the premium wines are the IGT "Prima Causa" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot) matured for 12 months in barrique and 12 months in the bottle, the IGT "Ciliegiolo Maremma Toscana" matured for 8 months in barrique and the DOCG Morellino di Scansano "Colli dell'Uccellina" (Morellino = Sangiovese, Merlot). About 200,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The product range also includes grappa.
