This traditional family winery is located in the municipality of Lapuebla Labarka (Álava province) in the Basque Country in northern Spain. It was founded in 1882 by Francisco Chávarri, who produced wines in this area for the first time. Today, the winery is run by the fourth generation. The vineyards cover 70 hectares of vines in the Rioja Alavesa DOCa area. They are mainly planted with Tempranillo, as well as Viura (Macabeo). The product range includes the Larchago, Fábulas de Larchago, Izarbe and Chavarry lines with various DOCa Rioja wines as Reserva, Crianza and Roble. There are also white wines (from Viura) and rosé wines (from Tempranillo). The bottle labels show drawings by Félix María de Samaniego (1745-1801), a very well-known fabulist in Spain, who came from the region. Bodegas Familia Chávarri owns other wineries in the DO areas of Rías Baixas and Ribera del Duero.
