The red grape variety comes from Spain. Synonyms are Prieto, Prieto Picudo Oval (variety with oval berries) and Prieto Picudo Tinto. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2010, the Alfrocheiro grape variety is a sibling, but the parents of the two varieties are not known. The white variety Godello (with synonym Prieto Picudo Blanco) is an independent variety and not a colour mutation. The early-ripening, low-yielding vine is moderately susceptible to botrytis. The red grape variety comes from the Canary Islands(Spain). Synonyms are Almuñeco, Listán Morado, Negra Común and Negro Común. Although it seems to be a synonym or morphological or name similarity, it should not be confused with the Listán Prieto (here Moscatel Negro) or Negramoll varieties, which are also grown here. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2003, it is also not a colour mutation of the white Listán de Huelva or Palomino (Listán Blanco) varieties.
