The white grape variety (also known as Crapettone) originates from Italy; the name is derived from the grape shape, meaning "sheep's beard". It was long considered a clone of the variety Coda di Volpe Bianca, but this was disproved by DNA analyses carried out in 2005. A close relationship was found to the varieties Ginestra and Piedirosso. It yields white wines with moderate acidity. The variety is cultivated in Campania in the province of Naples, where it is permitted in the DOC wine Vesuvio.
