The Italian region with the capital Milano (Milan) is located in the very north of the boot and borders on Switzerland. The viticulture here goes back to the Etruscans, Venitians, Ligurians and Romans. The Mantua-born poet bze. classic of Latin school reading Vergil (70-19 BC) tells of "rivers, lakes, olive trees, vines and golden grain fields" in his homeland. He probably meant the hills around Lake Garda. The extensive Po plain is mainly used for agriculture and animal husbandry.

The white grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Bianca Fernanda, Corteis, Cortese Bianca, Cortese Bianco, Cortese d'Asti, Cortese dell'Astigliano, Courteis, Courteisa, Courtesia, Fernanda Bianca and Raverusto. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. The early ripening, high-yielding vine produces acidic, fruity wines with citrus aromas. It is also used as a table grape. The variety was first mentioned in 1614 in an inventory of Castel Monferrato in the Piedmontese province of Alessandria.
