The Italian region with the capital Milano (Milan) is located in the very north of the boot and borders on Switzerland. The viticulture here goes back to the Etruscans, Venitians, Ligurians and Romans. The Mantua-born poet bze. classic of Latin school reading Vergil (70-19 BC) tells of "rivers, lakes, olive trees, vines and golden grain fields" in his homeland. He probably meant the hills around Lake Garda. The extensive Po plain is mainly used for agriculture and animal husbandry.
