The wines of the former DOC area in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna were incorporated into the new DOC area Romagna from the 2012 vintage onwards.

The region with the capital Bologna is located in the north of Italy. It stretches from the Adriatic Sea in the east with the Romagna area to the inland Emilia area in the west. In the north, the Po River forms the border to the region of Lombardy, in the south the Apennines form the almost 300 kilometre long border to the regions of Liguria and Tuscany.
