1999 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva, Tuscany, Italy

Firm, slightly herbal, dried-floral, nutty and delicate tobacco scent of ripe, partly preserved mixed berries and plums with fine spicy and mineral aromas. Ripe, quite juicy, firm fruit, nutty and delicately spicy aromas, fairly present, yet mature tannins, persistent and strong on the palate, very good substance, certain depth, a hint of candy, complex, still surprisingly youthful, has a grip, Mineral in the background, dried floral nuances, very good to long finish with ripe juice and spice. Has developed splendidly and was obviously underestimated by us during the first rehearsal.

Editor note: Inviting, slightly jammy wild berry and plum nose, cool mineral notes and prominent oak. Clean and fruity on the palate, fine, still slightly dusty tannins, quite an elegant style, more cool mineral notes in the background, medium depth, oak comes increasingly to the fore with aeration, while the fruit fades, commercial style, slightly astringent on an otherwise attractive finish.
